Tiger Shark Video Biography

If there's an argument against diving with large sharks without the protection of a cage, it's at the 40-second mark of the video atop this post.

The scuba diver, on a Bahamas expedition, jerked his foot from the mouth of a tiger shark before the predator became tempted to actually bite, and is fortunate that sharks generally are cautious about strange items that may not represent prey.
Patric Douglas, who runs a commercial dive company called Shark Diver, is quoted in a post for GrindTv as saying, "Yes, that is a Tiger on predation, and yes those divers do not have a clue, and yes that was as close as it looked.... At 0.40 that diver was one second away from sending years of conservation work down the tubes."

Douglas said the location appears to be an area within Tiger Beach, known for reef sharks and tiger sharks. The sharks are lured in by scent from a sunken chum box.

The dive leader might have been the person with the stick but he or she certainly did not to have the situation under control. Viewers can sense fear among some of the divers when the first tiger shark moves in.
Understandably, these kinds of expeditions are controversial and the video helps to reveal why. This particular expedition nearly turned into a disaster; it might have resulted in the death of a diver and reinforced perceptions of sharks are malicious killers.
That said, the footage is incredible.
