Tiger Shark Adaptations

1. Adaptations of the Tiger Shark (Galeocerdo Tigrinus) In this short presentation I am going to show and highlight some of the many adaptations of the Tiger Shark.
2. The jaw of a tiger shark is adapted to be wide and powerful, enabling it to (combined with the strategic build of the teeth) destroy anything that takes its pick, also enabling it to ingest larger objects/prey. Extra Wide and powerful mouth
3. The Tiger Shark’s teeth have two adaptations. These are the following: 1. The teeth are adapted to be as sharp as a “serrated blade” to allow it to puncture and tear apart all of its prey, including seals, Sea turtles, other sharks and fish and birds. The design has a deep cavity surrounded by smaller teeth and two big teeth either side. This enables ripping, shredding and grinding. 2. The teeth are also replaced over and over throughout the life of the shark. This is so that when the tooth wears down, It’s simply replaced by a new tooth. Razor sharp teeth
4. The Tiger Sharks eyes are specially adapted to be able to change quickly to low light levels. This allows more efficient eye sight and makes it easier for the Tiger Shark to hunt for and chase its prey. These eyes combined with the sharks acute sense of smell are a fabulous predator-making combination. Big quick adjusting eyes
5. Series of fluid-filled canals containing hair-like receptors (similar to the cochlea of the human ear) which extend along the sides of the head and body. These sense vibration, change in pressure, movement and sound. They appear as little thin, faint lines along the side of the shark. Lateral line receptors
